"The Black Cat" is a story of 'orthodox' vvitchcraft; the sudden ap-pearance of the second cat from novvhere, the slow growth of the vvhite marking, and the murder of the wife after the animal brushed against the protagonist on the stairs are touches of the supernatural.
"The Cask of Amontillado" is set in a nameless European city in an unspecified year (possibly sometime during the eighteenth century) and concerns the deadly revenge taken by the narrator on a friend who he claims has insulted him.
"The Masque of the Red Death" follows Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous plague known as the Red Death by hiding in his abbey. He, along with many other vvealthy nobles, has a masquer-ade bali within seven rooms of his abbey, each decorated with a dif-ferent color. İn the midst of their revelry, a mysterious figüre enters and makes his way through each of the rooms.
